Beer Name: All Funked Up
Brewery: Against The Grain Brewery
Style: Barrel Aged Kolsch
Average Score: 72/100
ABV%: 5.5

What it looks like:

Super clean and bright, small head that fell like Glass Joe from Tyson’s punch out.

Appearance Score: 10

What is smells like:

I am scoring this higher than I normally would, due to the fact that I have never had a barrel aged Kolsch before. I get a lot of biscuit and yeast aroma off the nose. Followed by a woody earth smell.

Aroma Score: 20

What is tastes like:

Citrus up front with a weak sour flavor. Subtle wood notes and barely recognizable as a kolsch, no real malt flavor present, but the yeast speaks loudly.

Taste Score: 30

Best part of this brew to me, smooth and consistent.

Mouthfeel Score: 12

Overall Notes:

With the oddity of class “Lambic Kolsch”, this is really hard for me to judge, not quite Kolsch and mostly a wild yeast charged sour with a pleasant finish. This was likely a bitch to put together, but I have to say it is not to my taste. If you are a sour lover this will serve as an excellent session brew, but if you are a purist Kolsch fan brewed in Cologne, I would pass.
